Chennai
Chennai the new Tech hub. Humid weather. The Masala dosas and smell of sambar in the air. Nariyal Pani. The Marina beach. The sweet smell of Jasmine garlands. The AIADMK and the Almighty JAYA. Shivaji Ganeshan and Kamal Hassan. Temples built for heroines and self-immolation bid for not getting ticket in a theater screening a Rajnikant movie. The Natural Icecreams. The temples. But what about the roads and traffic condition here? Discuss and share.

Unhappy Traffic Jams in Chennai

Seems to be good blog..at http://roundthecorner-siva.blogspot....n-chennai.html Wot says..

It was a Sunday. I first thought it would be a dry day, but only later in the day I came to know that it is one of the most unforgettable day in my life. I was traveling to Chennai, which is hardly 90 kms from my native town. Till Poonamallee, one of the suburb my journey was peaceful. After that, my car and vehicles around us moved like a tortoise and at last we were stuck in a traffic jam.

The vehicle came to a halt for more than 20 minutes and after that it started moving very slowly. It took almost 40 minutes for me to reach Porur, another suburb of the Greater Chennai city, which is hardly 3-4 kms from Poonamallee. This is not new either to the roads or the people who travel this way. It is part and parcel of their life and they are very much used to the traffic jams. But, 40 minutes to travel a shorter distance of 4 kms is ridiculous and it can’t happen in a metropolitan city like Chennai. Chennai faces traffic problem everyday.

These types of traffic jams are worse inside the city limits as it is over populous. Areas like T. Nagar, Vadapalani, Nungambakkam and Anna Nagar are more prone to traffic jam. During morning hours, people from these localities are forced to leave their houses early to save themselves from the traffic jams. The problem is not only with the people, but also the lack of flyovers and infrastructure for traffic is the major reasons for the traffic snarl often. This metropolitan city, which is spread across 40-50 kms, has hardly 10 to 15 flyovers, which is very least.

Flyovers should be built and proper infrastructure facilities should be brought in to the city. Only then we can put an end to the traffic jam in this great city. Not only this, the state government should also opt for another mode of transport such as Metro rail in order to lessen the traffic on the road. The alternative mode of transport is still in the papers for more than 10 years and at least the present government should take steps in implementing the project before their term ends. Only then, people can smile back while they travel on city roads.
