| Chennai Chennai the new Tech hub. Humid weather. The Masala dosas and smell of sambar in the air. Nariyal Pani. The Marina beach. The sweet smell of Jasmine garlands. The AIADMK and the Almighty JAYA. Shivaji Ganeshan and Kamal Hassan. Temples built for heroines and self-immolation bid for not getting ticket in a theater screening a Rajnikant movie. The Natural Icecreams. The temples. But what about the roads and traffic condition here? Discuss and share. |

New traffic pattern mooted
New traffic pattern mooted on Anna Salai The police are planning to make a stretch of Anna Salai one-way and convertthe three-lane system into a two-lane arrangement. Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sunil Kumar, talking on `Traffic planning for the Metro,' here on Thursday, said there was a proposal to make the stretch between Rajiv Gandhi Statue-Little Mount junction and Alexander Square one-way for vehicles coming into the city. Vehicles going south will take the Saidapet Taluk Office Road, turn right at the Raj Bhavan and join Anna Salai. "The changes are likely to come into effect within a fortnight. " The two-lane system will allow autorickshaws and two-wheelers in one lane and cars and heavy vehicles in the other. "The bus lane remains largely unused. With a two-lane system, two-wheelers will get more road space," he said. Two-wheelers constitute more than 80 per cent of the 18-lakh plus vehicular population in the city. He urged road-users to choose routes that saved time. A case in point was the Harrington Road subway. "The journey from Anna Nagar to Spencer's is reduced by 20 minutes for those using the subway. Yet many prefer the Nelson Manickam Road. " News Source
