Delhi
The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here?

Unsafe Roads

Yesterday a 27-YEAR-OLD man was crushed to death and three others were injured, one of them critically, when a bus hit a motorcycle and a scooter near the Nepal Embassy on the Barakhamba Road on Monday.

The accident took place in the 'service lane,' on the extreme left of the road usually taken by theelers and cars. Buses are not allowed to ply this lane.

Why Barakhamba Road is vulnerable

SERVICE LANES are open at Hailey Road and Tolstoy Marg crossings, enabling sudden vehicle flow into them. This creates problems BUSES speed on this stretch between Mandi House and CP roundabout to pick up passengers, thus putting other vehicles in harm’s way JAYWALKING has become commonplace as there are no railings on the central verge, thus allowing pedes trians to cross the road freely.

Fatal Accidents on Delhi Roads

Coming down heavily on accidents, the Supreme Court in the past had asked the Traffic Police to take measures to make roads safer for motorists, and the Traffic Police say, thanks to several steps taken by it, accidents have dropped over the past two years.

These days road accidents have become such a common situation in a common man’s life that it is quite predictable to avoid our life from their effects. It is highly advisable to be known to your city’s road conditions while driving on them and one should raise a flag if he/she finds that the conditions are not appropriate for safer driving practices.
