Delhi
The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here?

Unhappy Top 5 Delhi Traffic Hangouts!!!

I found this interesting blog at http://shubhhub.wordpress.com/tag/traffic/. What is your opinion about this?

I am trying to list the top 5 traffic jam spots in Delhi. These places need urgent attention of the government since the past many years but have been on a stand still. I know everyone will not be able to appreciate this since they haven’t really visited these places but for a person who travels 40 kms everyday to work and spends around 4 hours in the car travelling, these are really hard to forget.
  • Azad Market Near Filmistan: This has been a major traffic hangout. Ever since I was a child I have been travelling through this mess but please only drive if you know how to drive in Delhi I think you can understand this statement. Between 6pm to 9pm it is a complete mess. If one wants to know what means by driving bumper to bumper, they seriously need to come here. The only problem is that it connects North Delhi to Central Delhi and CP, can’t really do without it.
  • Chandni Chowk and Nayi Sarak:The best part of town. The cheap bookstores and whole sale markets are the real crowdpullers. I have never dared to come here in a car. This part of town has all kinds of transport modes, buses, cars, horsecarts, bullockcarts, riksha. You name it and it is here. Recently with the coming of Delhi Metro things have improved a little.
  • Near Old Fort and Delhi Zoo [just crossing Oberoi Hotel]:I am stuck at jams here for an incredible amount of time yet I don’t know the exact name of this place. I just know that after taking a left from Lodhi Road and crossing Oberoi Hotel, things become bad. You can be stuck here for even 2 hours, just imagine the amount of fuel being wasted. The problem is the same, it links to ITO and Ring Road, the two lifelines of Delhi and hence cannot help but going through it.
  • Priya Cinema Complex:Being a movie freak I love going to Priya Cinema. It is probably one of the oldest cinemas of Delhi which screen English movies and under the PVR Group has been maintained well. But the parking there is a mess and hence the traffic is also a mess. Because of the parking and buses and some stupid people the entire place becomes a mess. A little tweaking can make this a heaven but alas does anyone really want to do that?
  • Andheria Mod:Last but certainly not the least. This place is a major hangout for me and my friends, everyday while going and coming back from office we get stuck here for a good amount of time. This joins Delhi to Gurgaon and there is just one alternative way through the Delhi Airport which would be a lot longer. A real mess and requires immediate attention.
I would like to thank Google Earth and Wikimapia for helping me trace these places in Delhi where the government cannot even provide such imagery to its citizens even after 50 years of independence and numerous satellites and blah blah blah blah ……..

I have been in Bangalore too, I completely agree with you the situation there is probably worse. But Delhi is also really bad. I think the entire country needs a roads revolution , these are just some facets of Delhi traffic which I find particularly bad...

I am not so familiar with the others but I sure agree with Priya Cinema. It depends upon the traffic that you are persuing- if you are into “birdwatching” Priya has plenty of priyas(women). In south Delhi, M-Block market and the Anupam complex are also not bad.

Very nice and comprehensive professional post. Keep it up.....

huh.......how come you are comparing delhi with bangalore....though IT has revolutionised it...but mind it delhi would be the desirable city always........be it roads, enterrainment, money power or anything..surely deserves to be the capital of the country.....and it is improving day by day due to CWG...so no comparison with the capital city
