Delhi
The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here?

DTC Promises Revamp After CM’s Rebuke

IF YOU have been upset with the city’s road transport system, then it is time to perk up. With new transport shelters, signboards and modern buses in the DTC’s fleet, the Sheila Dikshit government promises to make daily travel an easy affair.

On Wednesday(31Jan'07), Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit pulled up the city transport department officials for the inordinate delay in implementation of certain modern transport projects. After the reprimand, Dikshit directed the officials to introduce modern, attractive and convenient buses at the earliest.

Dikshit cracked the whip at a meeting attended by Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf, the Principal Secretary (Transport), the Principal Secretary (Finance), the DTC CMD and senior officers from the PWD.

As per the instructions, the DTC plans to display route maps of buses at all entry points to the city, airports, railway stations, ISBTs, bus depots and congested places to ensure smooth connectivity for the commuter.

Officials said during the meeting that in the first phase of the transport mordernisation plan, 225 modern and attractive bus shelters would be ready in various parts of the city by November this year. Currently, there are 5,000 bus stops and 2,500 bus shelters in the city. The new bus shelters would come up on routes leading to the Commonwealth Games village, airports, railway stations and important junctions on the Ring Road.

The Chief Minister wrapped up the session by commending the transport department for successfully carrying out pollution control drives.
