Six-lane flyover to ease traffic at ITO crossing
Six-Lane Flyover to Ease Traffic at ITO Crossing An underground corridor to link DDU Marg and Vikas Marg Quote:
The two proposed infrastructure projects would substantially help in providing smooth flow of traffic and make the two intersections at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and ITO signal-free before the 2010 Commonwealth Games. A 620-metre-long six-lane flyover along Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg is proposed to facilitate straight traffic from Tilak Marg to Delhi Gate and vice versa. A right turn from Tilak Marg to Indraprastha Marg would be allowed only at the surface level signal. Straight traffic along Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg-Indrapratha Marg-Vikas Marg would pass through a six-lane underground corridor. This corridor would cross Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Ring Road as a continuous underground corridor and would ramp up towards IP barrage after crossing Ring Road. There would be ramps connecting the underground corridor to IP Marg near Vikas Bhavan. A right turning loop will also be constructed to allow the traffic from Vikas Marg to Ring Road to avoid the signal at ITO. The Minister said the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg-Indrapratha Marg intersection at the formation of the A-point would become signal-free. The ITO intersection will also become signal-free as a right turn from Ring Road-Indraprastha Depot side to Vikas Marg side will facilitate a U-turn near Yamuna Velodrome Road allowing a left turn at the Indraprastha flyover to reach Vikas Marg. Dr. Walia said that the entire area would have a conflict-free pedestrian corridor. The bus stop near the School of Planning and Architecture would be shifted under the Indraprastha flyover and connected with a continuous pedestrian way. The plan would also integrate with the High Capacity Bus System passing through the area. Source: http://epaper.thehindu.com (Delhi Edition) Date Of Publish: 02-Dec-06
