Delhi
The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here?

Sensors to cut wait at traffic signals

Sensors to cut wait at traffic signals

WAITING AT traffic signals, while driving, for the red light to turn green can be irritating - especially if the roads are empty The Delhi Traffic Police now plan to shorten your wait. They will plant sensors in the roads near intersections to regulate traffic signals according to the volume of traffic, "These sensors will be placed 50-100 metres from the intersection, embedded two inches under the road," said Qamar Ahmed, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

"The sensors will catch the number of vehicles approaching the intersection. Accordingly, the timing of the traffic light will be controlled." The sensors will be installed at 20 intersections soon. With the sensors in place, the traffic police also hope to see a decrease in red-light jumping. According to their records, prosecution for jumping redlights increased by 6.48 per cent in 2006. Red-light jumping usually happens late at night or early in the morning when there is less traffic.

Most lights dont function at night after 10 PM and this does cause a lot of chaos at certain intersections where traffic is still substantial during those times.. prime example would be the Hyatt regency crossing in South Delhi.

This is certainly great news.

Installing censors is not a wise decision... b’coz Indian ppl are very intelligent... and they cross the red light before turn it to green if there is no more traffic is coming from other hand.
