| Delhi The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here? |

New bus stops or show-stoppers?
New Bus Stops or Show-Stoppers? Disabled-Friendly, Stainless Steel Shelters On Anvil The city could finally get rid of its dilapidated bus stops and make way for new-look stainless steel, disabledfriendly swanky ones. After several hiccups and failed attempts to redesign the ill-maintained stops, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to involve private players in constructing and maintaining bus queue shelters and generate revenue. ![]() DTC has already made a beginning and would entrust the job for 225 bus stops all over the city to a private company. Only 70 bus stops would not be covered, as they come on the high-capacity bus corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Delhi Gate. The new design would involve advertisement panels on the top and backside of shelters. Under the top panel, name of the bus stop would be displayed. Entire structure would be made of stainless steel. Inside, there would be four panels and half the space would be taken by an advertisement panel. Next to it would be a clock indicating time with details of bus routes. There would also be a global positioning system panel showing how far the next bus is. Route maps would be pasted inside the shelter showing not only the DTC bus routes but also major interchanges with other modes of transport like Metro. These shelters will have seats made up of perforated stainless steel. The stops would be disabledfriendly as the access would have a slope and ramps. Besides, there would be litter bins and flower pots. Source: http://epaper.timesofindia.com (Delhi Edition) Date Of Publish: 16-Jan-07

Maintenance will be the key behind the success of these bus stands. I know Gov. will surely give the maintenance contract to any company (as it happens in each project). But what do u think friendz will it be enough b’coz what about those uncivilized educated people who use govt. property as a dustbin.
