HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here? |

A 16-year-old boy who rammed his car into a cyclist and critically injured him while racing with his friend was granted bail just hours after the incident in south Delhi two nights ago, police said Thursday.
‘Such accidents are bailable offences and the boy was granted bail,’ said R.S. Yadav, deputy commissioner of police. ‘Since it is a bailable offence, the police cannot do much but fight the case in the court.’ According to the police, the minor, a student of G.D. Goenka School, was allegedly racing with a friend on Nelson Mandela Marg when he rammed his Honda Accord into a milkman on his cycle Tuesday night. The cyclist, Ramesh, 25, was admitted to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Vasant Kunj where he is in a critical condition. A police team had been specially constituted to investigate the case and to apprehend all the accused. Police have seized the vehicle with the registration number HR26A D0115. ‘We are preparing sketches of the accident on the basis of the statements of the eyewitnesses and would use it as the prime evidence in the court,’ said Yadav. Ramesh’s family members have also come from Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. ‘We had informed his family members soon after the incident,’ said Yadav. He said Ramesh was working as a milkman at a dairy in Masoodpur village in Vasant Kunj area for the last few years. Eyewitnesses said the boy had tried to flee after the incident but was caught by them. ‘The eyewitnesses have stated that the accused and his friend were driving at high speed at the time of accident,’ said Yadav. In the last three years, over 4,200 people, mostly pedestrians, have died in road accidents in the capital. |
