| Delhi The capital, seat of political power, the satta game! Republic and Independence day parades. Golgappes. Punjabi Dhaba khana! Chandni Chowk, 10 Janpath! Cheap affordable housing. HOT SCORCHING summers, COLD CHILLING winters. Pollution. Not very friendly neighbors, Chai in earthern pots! Ambassadors (cars here!). Black Cats! Sonia Gandhi! Road Rage, Traffic Jams, but how good is the traffic sense here? |

Lane Discipline
Its utter ridiculous to know that we cannot get puny and small things straight and still plan on becoming a world class city by 2010. Road aggression is common and so is traffic apathy in our beautiful city in which we take so much pride and passion.
One of the first scenes that the outsiders will see in our country and especially our city will be the roads and traffic. Why is there stupid aggression on our roads? The roads in delhi may be the best in the country but stilll remain to be worst among the metropolicies in the world. Cities of Shanghai and Beijing have rose to great heights within a span of few years in becoming a disciplined city in terms of its traffic management. Why cannot New Delhi and the other major cities of india too become not just like them, but rather even better. Why cannot the traffic police of the city take up some constructive initiatives in order to tackle this situation. This would rather give them lesser headache in the long run. The problem happens when people dont treat the city like their homes. People come here dirty this beautiful city, take all that they can take and give nothing in return. What a shame! ...and disgrace! to the people who claim to become world class but still remain hypocritic to themselves and to the ones around them boasting around that their city will be hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games. This goes to both the public and the goverment . If you are wise then treat this critisizm as oil being poured on your head. A city starts becoming a world class city right from the citizens firsts and then the government second. |

So true! This area is not important for the government. The important stuff is making as much money (corruption) from the funding of the games.
Nothing has changed in Delhi from the last 10 years. Traffic continues to grow. People have no basic/civil manners/sense. The city has not systme for dumping garbage. Cars are just parked mindlessly everywhere on the roads. The govt. lacks any vision and probably has no clue as to how to start tackling this epidemic. God Bless India. |
