Road Safety Week (01Jan'07 - 07Jan'07)

National Road Safety Week (01Jan'07 - 07Jan'07)

Road safety week (From 01Jan'07 to 07Jan'07) is currently going on in India.

A bit of Gandhigiri at the Road Safety Week too

In Pune....on Tuesday (02Jan'07), motorists on the Ambedkar Road were in for a surprise. The road was full of traffic policemen welcoming them by handing over roses and New Year greeting cards in Gandhigiri style.

As part of the Road Safety Week, the traffic police have decided to felicitate motorists with a ‘Vigilant Vehicle Driver’ award. Close to 100 motorists were felicitated on Tuesday in Camp. On Monday a similar exercise was carried at Yerwada.

Motorists were felicitated on the basis of whether they were wearing helmets, whether they stood before the stop line at a signal, whether they were carrying proper license documents and wearing seat belts for four wheelers. The motorists were also requested to convey the message of obeying traffic rules to their friends.

Really intresting campaign.......but In Delhi "This week, violating a traffic rule might get you a ‘gift’ rather than a challan."

Traffic has been an issue of concern in the city. Bangalore’s roads were just not made for the sort of traffic that vies for space on them. And with the number of vehicles increasing by the day, the civic agencies are running out of options. M A Saleem, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) has the unenviable task of managing traffic on some of the city’s busiest roads. Finally got Road Safety Award.
