The India Habitat Centre was venue to the International Road Safety Film Festival, organised by Institute Of Road Traffic Education (IRTE ). Six films, all dealing with road safety, were screened on the occasion.

Some of the notable ones were Velicham, produced by Chennai Container Pvt Ltd and directed by Rammohan Raghunathan, Traffic , made by Hirat Patel for the Ahmedabad police, and a public service message by Castrol India called Distraction While Driving. The festival also had an entry called Doesn’t your child deserve a safe ride, directed by Bernadette Bhacker from Oman. All the movies aimed at taking up the common issues concerning road safety such as the use of seat belts, not jumping red lights, and drunken driving.

Four of the movies will be screened at the Road safety film festival to be held by UNESCO in Geneva later this year.

H.S. Lheem, managing director, Hyundai Motors India was the chief guest on the occasion. A conference on road safety was also held which saw participation of 70 delegates from 18 countries. Rohit Baluja, president , IRTE, said, “ While investing in infrastructure and education in order to increase road safety will give us returns after 30-40 years, using the visual media will give us immediate returns because it reaches the people directly.”
