Campaign to reduce highway accidents in Delhi

Delhi been asked to behave ahead of the Commonwealth Games. But the statistics for accident and road deaths from around the country are scary.

India is the number one country when it comes to road deaths:

--13 people die of road accidents every hour in India
--India is No 1 in the world in road deaths/accidents

This year, in just Delhi alone, more than 50,000 drivers refused to stop at zebra crossings, about 5 lakh drivers jumped red lights and 15,000 people were charged for over speeding.

Also, cases of dangerous driving have doubled compared to the corresponding period last year.

But now, a new initiative has begun to change and make driving in India safer.

Indian Road Federation and NDTV have come together to begin a National Campaign for the Reduction of Road Fatalities in India.

Here, people from different departments -- from Road Transport, police, NGOs and many other sectors will come together to educate people.

Commonwealth Games are barely a year away, and before the world descends on our roads India has to drive safer.
