After “Say Mock Tails”, it’s Artistic T-Shirts for the campaign against drunken driving.
One for the road? Huh? No, don’t drink and drive. One has heard that many times but how many follow it? Maybe the little detail that more than 86,000 drunken driving accidents occurs everyday across India might be of some help. If one were to close in on the details of the six lakh road accidents that is the daily figure for India, maybe many more drunken driving fatalities would rear their heads, but then, the absence of a mandatory alcohol test makes it difficult to reach an exact figure. And if you’re still not shaken and stirred, here’s more... There is no law against drunken driving in the country.“Under the act of 1856, a drunken driver is charged with only a fine of Rs 2000 or imprisonment for six months and Rs 3000 or imprisonment for 2 years if found guilty a second time. Salman Khan was fined a sum of Rs 960 when he was found guilty of the same,” informs Prince Singhal, of Community against Drunken Driving (CADD). “That’s the reason why we are trying to create awareness among people on the same,” says Singhal. He also makes it a point to add, “Mind you, we aren’t against drinking but against drinking and driving. You should be responsible once you venture out on the roads.” In 2002, it was the slogan “Say mock tails” that helped Prince grab eyeballs for his cause. And now, the campaign is being led by art. Twenty two artists have come forth to create original impressions for t-shirts to support the cause. And the works of art are authenticated too. The painters include Bose Krishnamachari, Brinder Miller, Laila Khan Rajpal, Jogen Chaudhary, Shamshad Hussain, Neeraj Goswami, Paresh Maitey and Suhas Roy.Million Dollar Question Remains: Do you think the rallies, campaigns, art and sculpture be able to mould Indian Souls...??? Prince in his 4 years tenure would be afreaid to say no........!! |
