Trader killed in e-way mishap
25 September 2009: In yet another fatal mishap on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, a businessman was killed and his son seriously injured on Thursday night when their car got sandwiched between a truck and a trailer.
The victim, Lalit Monga (60), with his younger son Ankit Monga, was returning from his factory in Gurgaon to his Tagore Garden residence. The incident happened on Mahipalpur flyover near Kendriya Vidyalaya.
According to the police at Delhi Cantonment, they received a call about the mishap from a passerby at 11.15 pm. The fire department also rushed one fire tender to the spot. The car was so badly mangled that its doors had to be cut to pull out the two occupants.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the Honda City, which was cruising over 100kmph, rammed into a truck on the Mahipalpur flyover. "Its bonnet got stuck in the truck, and while the car driver was trying to pull it out, a speeding trailer crashed into the Honda City. The car got crushed between the two heavy vehicles,'' said a senior police officer, quoting an eyewitness.
Both were rushed to Safdarjung hospital where doctors declared Monga dead. Ankit is recuperating at the hospital and is not fit for giving statement. "Once we record his statement, we will be able to know the exact sequence of events,'' said the officer. Monga is survived by wife, two sons and daughters-in-law. His elder son was at the house at the time of the incident. A case of death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered at Delhi Cantonment police station.
Police said that the trailer driver managed to flee from the spot but the vehicle was later impounded.
