Gurgaon Expressway Safety Panel Constituted

New panel to oversee safety norms on Gurgaon Expressway

The Gurgaon district administration constituted a committee on Monday to supervise safety norms on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The committee members will inspect the Expressway from the toll plaza at the Gurgaon-Delhi border to Kherki Daula to identify accident prone areas.

Based on the recommendations of the committee, the concessionaire, D S Constructions, will be asked to set right the flaws in a stipulated time period, starting Tuesday.

The committee comprises DCP (Traffic) Satender Gupta, SDM (North) Shakti Singh, DGM of Haryana State Road Development Corporation (HSRDC) R K Rathi and representatives of D S Construction and the National Highway Authority of India.

“It is the duty of the concessionaire to maintain smooth flow of traffic on the Expressway. If even after the recommendations of the committee the concessionaire fails to remove flaws, we will register a case of negligence against them,” Deepti Umashankar, Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, said.

D S Constructions has been asked by the Deputy Commissioner to install and maintain traffic lights at junctions on the Expressway with 24-hour power backup. The DC also ordered the concessionaire to install CCTV cameras and speed sensors to check accidents and criminal activities on the stretch.

“The company needs to make proper lane markings for heavy and light vehicles so that slow- and fast-moving vehicles are regulated properly. They have been asked to install better signage and put caution boards well in advance for the safety of the commuters,” Umashankar said.

To ease traffic congestion at intersections, the company has been asked to improve the geometric designs of road at sites designated for underpass and flyovers like Rajeev Chowk, IFFCO Chowk and on service roads between Rajeev Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk. The Deputy Commissioner has directed the committee members to study this aspect.

Meanwhile, the NHAI has been directed to coordinate with various agencies to clear stagnant water from the service road near the Hero Honda Chowk and other places.
