GURGAON: A 40-year-old businessman from Lajpat Nagar was killed in an accident on NH-8 at Shikohpur near Gurgaon when a heavy container from a loaded truck fell on his Honda City car. His 37-year-old brother, who was with him in the car, survived miraculously with minor injuries.
According to police sources, the accident took place around 6.30am on Friday a few kilometres ahead of Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The truck, loaded with inverter batteries, reportedly lost balance and hit the divider. "The truck's front wheels got on the divider because of which the hind part got lowered leading to the fall of the heavy container it was carrying. The container crushed the car which was right behind the truck,'' said Ramesh Kumar, SHO, Kherki Daula police station. He further added that the truck driver fled the spot leaving the truck behind.
While Subodh Kumar Sood, who was at the wheel of the car, died on the spot, his younger brother, Pramod Sood, received injuries on his head, back and hands. Pramod was rushed to Max Hospital, where doctors said his condition was stable.
The brothers, who are into an export business, were headed towards Jaipur, said the police. "The roof of the side where Pramod was sitting did not get crushed by the container and his life was saved,'' added Sood.
Meanwhile, a case under Sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) of IPC was registered against the unidentified truck driver at Kherki Daula police station.
"We have impounded the truck and a hunt is on to nab the accused,'' said Inder Singh Saini, DCP (south Gurgaon). The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after a postmortem on Friday.
