Pedestrians' safety

In my opinion, to be safe pedestrians should always walk on the right side of the road. As vehicles keep left, pedestrians should keep right. By doing this they can see the oncoming traffic and take evasive action when needed. Is there any rule regarding -on which side of the road the pedestrians should walk?

The rule is 'in the absence of platform the pedestrians should walk on the right side of the road' so that they can face oncoming traffic.
