Traffic overcrowding is a serious problem in most Indian metros. Creating more infrastructures is not a solution by itself. The improvements in infrastructure will always lag behind the increase in traffic. Its benefits are only short-term; what's needed is a more ingenious, holistic and incorporated approach to the problem.

Parking system is not good
Parking system is not good
Proper vehicle parking contributes a lot in managing the traffic but illegal (parking at unauthorized place) and disordered parking cause lots of problem for moving traffic as well as for pedestrians. Although systematic parking system has been started in few cities but they still need some improvements. Unfortunately In many cities there is no parking habit at all. |

Traffic management is here, finally!
![]() Every time you’ve spent hours stuck in peak hour traffic anywhere in India, you’ve probably cursed the country's non-existent traffic planning and road sense for the mess. But some of the Indian cities are now taking a lead in cranking out a modern traffic management system that will use high-tech tools and actually better deploy the traffic police force as well as ensure that the flow of traffic is mapped and controlled to ensure even peak hours don’t cause unmanageable jams. As the number of autos is steadily ever-increasing each year with a corresponding rise in accident. It’s very difficult to manage traffic. By the way Kolkata, best in traffic management…

Yes we are still suffering form poor traffic management..I think poor designing of roads and their maintenance are also responsible for poor traffic management. Here in Delhi there is not a single road where pedestrians can cross safely. We have the concept of free left turns but in other cities of the world there is no such concept. Actually our roads designs force people to break rules.

Good suggestions ganesh…our authorities are not able to providing facilities according to increasing vehicular population. Corruption free RTO (if it happens) department can also provide us great relief from untrained drivers. To make our kids habitual for obeying traffic rules is very important and it will certainly improve our road traffic scenario in future.

Rupali, The answer to your question lies with everyone in the country. Most people are waiting for the other to do something and then we criticise. It is time the public got together, gave their spare time to help/watch and suggest to the authorities. Afterall they are spending our tax money. It is a qusetion of taking responsibility. I am sure India can change. It needs a few good people.

Exactly... we are always under the apprehension of looking up to each other and waiting for the other to take the initiative. If we can get freedom from British Empire by joining hands in unison, then why can’t we change traffic condition in our country? Instead of blaming our authorities we should cooperate them by giving time to time suggestion, by obeying traffic rules etc.

No one can clap without two hands, i feel that people lack the social responsibility to adhere to rules, everyone thinks "im the king of the road".
On the other hand we have politicians and administrators who lack responsibility and dedication to their work..policemen who fail to stand and regulate and specifically enforce traffic rules..but then why would he stand ? the government doesn't give him cooling glass for standing in the sun nor do they give masks to protect themselves from the pollution nor do they get 5 figure salaries? what is he working for?this runs in his mind....then who are we to blame ? government which doesn't have the machinery to enforce or we the people who refuse to accept the rule of the land...i have been shown the hand by several motorists several times just because i refuse to skip a signal..now is that my problem?? |
