Easy finance schemes to purchase new vehicles are also the main cause of increasing vehicular traffic on our roads.
The government should restrict the purchase of independent vehicles. The Government should increase the taxes on vehicles. If people really have a necessity for A vehicle then they can purchase it, otherwise not.

A traffic jam is directly related to the number of vehicles in a city. Development of the country should not be in only one city but distributed all over the country. By distribution of development we can distribute the traffic equally. I think it will be good in the long run as well.

So in my opinion, if we really want to reduce traffic in cities then we should encourage people to use public transport.

For example, in Singapore everybody uses public transportation. With the use of public transportation, Singapore has no traffic problem. If people use public transportation then not only will they reduce the traffic but also save money.

People feel good if they live IN a good and comfortable environment.

Exactly more use of public transport can sort out the heavy traffic problem but if you will compare the public transportation facilities of Singapore with India then surely Singapore will win the battle. Isn’t it? Just for e.g. blue line and charted buses of delhi always remains overcrowded. You can easily find broken seats, windows, loud music, rude drivers and conductors etc in these buses. So on which basis you can encourage people to ride in these buses. Only those who can’t effort their vehicle like to ride in these buses. Therefore firstly we should improve the standard of our public transportation facilities then talk about more use of public transport.

I like to add one more thing here..also compare the human population of Singapore and India. From India’s point of view use of public transport by all road users is not possible.

82-word billboard promoting the use of public transport in Mumbai

Traffic jams pose a perennial problem in Mumbai. This 82-word billboard promoting the use of public transport, was put up in high traffic zones where cars literally inch their way forward.

Text of Bill board

"Of the 3,67,142 cars in this city, imagine, if the one in front of you wasn't on the road. You'd be one car ahead. If two weren't, you'd be two cars closer to your destination. And if a thousand people decided to leave their car at home and take a train, a bus, or share a cab, there would be less traffic on this road and you would waste less time reading billboards. Mumbai Traffic Police."

Education and legislation.

Note; For your info the road safety trianble you have shown at the top of the page is incorrect. A triangle is a warning sign. The car and motorcycle should be placed in a red circle which is a probihition sign and apt for what you are trying to show,

3'rd approach to the safety technologies

Right now there exist two approaches to the safety technologies in car construction:

Active: breaks, ABS, etc
Passive: air-bag, side-belts etc.

Both concentrate on car. I would like to concentrate on driver and to introduce a new approach:

"Active-2.0": make drivers drive safer.

Details below:

1. To make people driving safer you have to be able to measure driver's safety level - it is possible to calculate probability of heavy accident, basing on the number and frequency of smaller accidents/incidents or near-miss situations - see Heinrich's law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_William_Heinrich
Originally Heinrich's Law was used in industry accidents but there is no reason to not use it in traffic accidents as well.
In case of traffic accidents, the number of near miss situation or small accident can allow us to calculate the odds of heavy accident (near miss situation in case of traffic are usually connected with sudden breaks or sudden turns)

2. Once the safety level of each driver is measured then it has to be displayed.

3. If a driver has the information about his safety level displayed it can influence on a safety in several ways:
- information for a driver - some people are not aware how dangerous are they – when informed about it can start driving safer
- information for passengers – some pressure on driver to drive safer
- information for superiors - in case of company car (taxi, trucks) it can be checked by superiors
- in future - information for Police and insurance company

4. The information about safety level of driver can be also used to mechanically make driver driving safer i.e. if the safety level is below some set value the maximum speed of car is reduced, or over some speed the noisy alarm is on etc.

This is simple idea, if you like it and you know someone able to introduce it in car production please let them know

If you would like to discuss it more in details please contact me on my email mszeptyckigmail.com

Regards

How we can reduce heavy traffic on roads

Well, I have the following suggestion on the above problem:

1)Make maximum use of public transport like metro, trains, etc.

2)Car pool system of sharing should be more common.

3)Use goods train parcel and passenger trains where ever possible for Industrial raw material, Industrial products, heavy containers, long and over dimensioned steel items. The road trucks should be used for perishable items. The use of trucks should be minimized and thus reduce the heavy loads on truck and roads.

4)Make use of cars when dire necessary and adopt self discipline for the same.

5)Do not allow the children to drive without valid Driving Licence.

6) Form habit to use bike or bicycle for short distance and local area shopping.

7)Administration should make all weather-friendly roads of concrete so that traffic may move fast with out bumps.

8)Provide slip roads on all city roads to avoid jams.

9)Provide effective signaling system on all vulnerable crossings with 24 hour power supply .

10) Increase speed limits on city roads when the roads are conforming to Standard specifications laid down by IRC (Indian Road Congress)IS 2720, CRRI (Central Road Research Institute.)

11) It should be mandatory to get the roads stage inspected and approved by Third Party Agency ( whether it is colony roads or city roads) during construction to ensure smooth fast traffic flow.

12)Storm Water Drains should invariably provided on all city and colony roads to avoid water logging thus reducing road damages and maintenance cost.

Hi manoj
See first of all, government should restrict the parking at the main market, at every four way there should be traffic lights. Cars and other heavy vehicle should be avoided at the market places.
