Are streets without traffic signs conceivable?
In a recently published article "European Cities Do Away with Traffic Signs" published in www.spiegel.de website there is an upcoming concept of streets free of rules and red lights! Sounds frigtening on this part of the world...
Are streets without traffic signs conceivable? Seven cities and regions in Europe are giving it a try -- with good results. European traffic planners are dreaming of streets free of rules and directives. They want drivers and pedestrians to interact in a free and humane way, as brethren -- by means of friendly gestures, nods of the head and eye contact, without the harassment of prohibitions, restrictions and warning signs. "The many rules strip us of the most important thing: the ability to be considerate. We're losing our capacity for socially responsible behavior" - How true! Can we ever imagine any experiment even of slightest proximity as above in India? We all know how much socially responsible we Indian citizens are Even the very thought seems ridiculous in this part of the world which is already on verge of implementation on some other part of the globe. Any thoughts?
