Commute & Conference in a Bus! Don that tuxedo, sling on the lap-top, keep the power-point presentation ready, hop onto a bus and begin that conference. In a world of juggernaut traffic and little time, here’s the panacea — conference commuting. In a bus. ![]() WHICH CONFERENCE HALL IS THAT? Here’s KSRTC’s latest offering, a conference hall in a bus, or a conference. Officials held a two-hour meeting in the bus on Tuesday at the Kempe Gowda bus station in Bangalore The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), has introduced a spanking new bus facility — Conference Buses. The bus, touted as the first of its kind, is, in a nutshell, a conference room packaged in a bus. Replete with television, LCD projector, audio-visual facilities, pantry, attendants to even bring in snacks, driver and co-attendant, fixed tables and swivel chairs, refrigerator, generator, these buses are the perfect antidote to a brick and mortar conference halls in five-star hotels. On Tuesday officials of the KSRTC held a meeting at this conference bus, deliberating various logistics of upcoming transport projects. Explains Bhaskar Rao, director (vigilance), KSRTC, “We have realised that instead of wasting so many cars and vehicles for 20-30 people, getting a conference hall and getting everybody there on time, it is easier to get a single bus which is as good as any regular conference hall. We will now be using it in other places too. If we have an event at say, Kolar or Tiptur, we can travel in a conference bus, have our meetings and presentations. When we reach the destination, half the work is done.’’ The bus presently is a 17-seater with a special seat and table for whoever is chairing the meeting, apart from desks and draws for everyone. Officials inform that civic bodies like the BDA and BMRDA as also the postal department have evinced interest in these buses. If BDA wants to have an inspection of say, a section of Peripheral Ring Road, they can travel in this bus and have their meetings and presentations en route, explain officials. There’s more — a swisher Volvo model is on the anvil, which can be used for state-level meetings chaired by the chief minister. The good news, meanwhile, is that these buses are now available even for the private sector. Up for grabs for Rs 2,000 a day! Along with a driver, attendant and co-attendant.
