Bangalore
The garden city, set dosa, the largest population Kannada speaking Tamils, Malleshwaram, MG, Kemp Fort, Software, no water, pubs, Vidhan Soudha, Vivesvaraya, spanking clean, sweet, relaxed, greatest weather. Techies who know the right rules to flirt. Silicon valley of India. But how MNCs, outsourcing and corporate culture is shaping the infrastructure of the city?

9 Rules To Drive In Bangalore...

9 things to be kept in mind if you happen to drive in Bangalore...
  1. If you come across an animal trying to cross the road, always move towards the rear end of the animal. I mean move towards the tail. Don't ask me 'What if it doesn't have a tail?' You know where the tail would be. So, to be clearer, move towards its butt. Don't aim... Just Move... The animals, by instinct, would run forward sooner rather than moving back.
  2. To get better mileage, try driving on speed rather than acceleration. Say X is driving a vehicle on a road that has a speed breaker and the speed breaker is visible from a distance of 100 meters. You would know that if you lower the accelerator, how far you would go with the speed at which you were traveling. Andaaz apna apna Make a guesstimate and move towards any such speed breakers (read potholes).
  3. Wear helmets. This would protect your eyes and hair from dust. Apart from this, a helmet would also protect your head in case (god forbid) you meet with an accident. One important thing - Do you apply oil to your hair regularly? If you do apply oil regularly and if you DON'T use bandana, then after a few days, your helmet would stink. So, I have three suggestions:
    • Use bandana if you do apply oil regularly.
    • If are not comfortable using bandana, don't let your nose go near the sponge of your helmet.
    • One of my friends reviewed my write-up and read bandana as banana. If you are also confused like my friend, then better have your eyes checked because you should have good eye sight to drive.
  4. Don't get into any kind of road rage. You could fail or fall or both. If the other person is in a hurry, let him go.
  5. Wear a wind cheater always. Even in summers. Who knows?! Your favorite shirt could get spoilt if the silencer of a vehicle in front of you sputters out oil.
  6. If the person in front of you is looking to his/her right/left, it probably means that s/he would be going into that direction. Stop going in the same direction as s/he'z going. Move in the opposite direction.
  7. If you find any BPO vehicle violating the traffic guidelines, don't try to remember the number and call it to complain. No use.
  8. If you are struck anywhere in the traffic, try to look for pavements. You can safely travel on them as long as you don't honk at any pedestrian. If you honk, then the chances of you getting beaten are more. Obey them and wait till they move away giving you way to proceed.
  9. This might sound very selfish and some people might even loathe me for saying this - DON'T STOP ANYWHERE IN THE NIGHT TO OFFER HELP. If you are traveling in the night, and if you come across someone who is trying to stop you to get some help (read vehicle breakdown, accident etc.) don't stop. Mind your bloody own business and get back home safely. I did see a couple of incidents, where people were looted/hit/murdered when they stopped at such scenes.

Happy Driving!!!

All 9 rules are applicable for whole India not only in Bangalore. India is the worst place in following traffic rules.
