Zirakpur flyover opens for traffic

MOHALI: Vehicles coming from Ambala side were allowed to pass over the flyover at Zirakpur from 5pm on Monday after National Highway Authority of India cleared the technical report submitted by engineers of the company that built it. The NHAI approval from Delhi reached the company officials late in the afternoon.

The flyover’s span, which is meant for traffic headed for Chandigarh, was closed for vehicles last week after district administration received complaints of it shaking.

Then, Mohali deputy commissioner PS Mand and Derabassi SDM Puneet Goyal had inspected the flyover.

A technical team of the construction company had arrived from Bangalore to rectify the structural problem in the span and had sent the report to NHAI.

A company official said the problem was rectified on Sunday itself.

Mand is yet to take any action on the administrative and technical report submitted by SDM Goyal. He said the report had not reached him. SDM had recommended that some premier engineering institute of the country should inspect the flyover’s structure as executive engineer (PWD) had discovered certain lapses in its construction process.
