The absence of a main bus-stand and consequential difficulties have forced the local residents of Tindivanam to take up the issue with the State Government.
The unrelenting residents are now demanding that the State Government should construct a main bus-stand for the benefit of people in the town.
The town, located on Chennai-Tiruchy Highway, had been devoid of a main bus-stand since long, about a decade.
As a result, people bound for Chennai, Villupuram, Madurai, Salem, Tiruchy, Thiruvannamalai, Puducherry, Kumbakonam, Nagapattinam, Tanjore, Chidambaram and Cuddalore are facing serious hardships even today.
The buses, passing through the town, were always forced to halt near the police station situated beneath a big fly-over. Besides buses, a large number of heavy and light vehicles used to pass through the town causing traffic snarls on the highway. Since then bus drivers had been halting vehicles on the busy highway. Several mishaps had occurred on this highway.
