Helmets are a must
Road accidents are the leading cause of deaths in India. Add to this bad roads, indisciplined and drunken driving. No wonder accidents are described as the neglected epidemics.
Head injuries in Motorcycle accidents are the number one cause of death or serious injuries. Riders who do not wear helmets (Approved by ISI) are more likely to suffer from fatal head injuries as compared to those who wear helmets. In India, the argument against the helmet is sweating, loss of hair or diminished hearing. While these may be partly true, the advantage in terms of surviving serious head injuries are arguably far greater. Another grouse against this rule could be the clumsiness one feels in carrying helmets wherever one goes. This inconvenience can be easily overcome by providing space (carriers or boxes) in the vehicle itself with lock and key facility. ![]() Sadly, wearing a helmet has become a political decision and not a lifesaving issue. Wearing helmet it's a good for your head safety point of view...there should be nominal charges for people not wearing helmet. Something is better than nothing. But i dont think we will loose hair if we wear helmet.

If I am not wrong then I think wearing helmets while riding is mandatory in each and every part of our country but have a look how bearing helmets culture varies in 3 cities of NCR (National Capital Region) i.e. Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi:
In Ghaziabad no body wear helmets at the time of riding and people consider helmet as a burden on their head. The intresting thing is that when any kind of special drive conduct by local police to bearing helmets then at that time sell of helmets in Ghaziabad increased rapidly. Similar scene in lots other cities of India In Noida bearing helmet for the rider who drives the two-wheeler is mandatory but for the other rider on same two-wheeler is not necessary means 2 riders on a bike one (who is driving) is bearing helmet and other is without helmet. In Delhi wearing helmets for both riders on a two-wheeler is compulsory otherwise you will get challan by police but here the second rider (who is not driving the bike) can bear a plastic helmet that is generally bear by labors on construction site. |

Those who wear helmet must certainly be among those who have something inside their heads to protect.
Those who do not wear the helmet must be those who have nothing inside their heads that needs protection! Last edited by ravikant; 06-04-07 at 03:01 PM. |

Do u have the answer?
Morning time, perhaps the busy father wanted his son to be dropped to the school; he is taking out his bike and wears the helmet. This small boy keeps glancing to his dad just looking like the astronaut! Asks him "What is this? Dad replied "It's Helmet". The anxious pupil asks "Why do you ware it? "Oh, it is very important in case I fall from the bike, this helmet will protect my head which otherwise can get hurt!!" A smiling reply... "The RTO uncle has told everyone who drives the bike to wear this. This will protect our head in case of accident". Father seems confident answering the son. "So when I or Mom sits behind you on the bike, we don't need wear it?" "You mean my head or mothers head is not required to protect?" "Why our RTO uncle doesn't want our heads to be protected as well?" Few logical questions from the son. Father hurriedly picks him up and say's "let go to school! We are getting late!!" story source Perhaps this father like many of us, don't have the answer. |

Those who refuse to wear helmets and oppose a life saving suggestion I am sure have nothing much in the head to lose. It should be compulsory because if a person gets a head injury and then becomes useless to his family and society everyone suffers. Why would you be so selfish so as to put others in misery because of your carelessnes......WEAR A HELMET!!!

Wearing a helmet is the single most effective way of reducing head injuries and fatalities resulting from motorcycle crashes. Proper helmet use campaigns need to be launched in India, as standard helmet use and proper helmet use rates are exceedingly low.

Another story. A father is taking her child to school on his bike. She suddenly exclaims "father, I pity than uncle" showing him another biker. Father asks "why?". "See, it seems he doesn't have any space on his bike to attach his helmet. He is wearing it on his head. poor uncle".

making helmets compulsory as a rule could reduce the lives lost due to vehicle accidents and hence it is better to wear helmet.
