| Bhopal Bhopal, impressive is the new city with its verdant, exquisitely laid out parks and gardens, broad avenues and streamlined modern edifices. The capital of Madhya Pradesh is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, historicity and modern urban planning. But when it comes to city road and traffic, do we call this modern urban planning? |

Parking laws are linked to the problems of environment and also space. Bhopal and its surrounding areas had been witnessing series of road accidents due to wrong parking by the vehicles. This is particularly true about the high-ways linked to the state capital.
Most of the trucks are parked wrongly on the roadsides and without indicators. This had been the cause of fatal accidents of one girl student on Hoshangabad road near the university and subsequently death of two more students in the same area. Road mishaps due to illegal parking on the "Marine Drive" of Bhopal near Big lake also invite attention of the law enforcement agencies. There had been mushroom of housing colonies on the periphery of the state capital. Multi-storey apartments have come up in almost all the pockets. There is no space of parking for the four-wheeler and two-wheelers in these buildings and the occupants association prohibit parking of vehicles of visitors there. 'No Parking for outside Vehicles' policy is invalid and buildings which have parking space should allow visitors to park on their premises and help decongest roads. Madhya Pradesh which is growing fast definitely needs a suitable legislation to regulate parking of vehicles on the roads. Contractors at the airports, railway stations, bus stands and market places are charging money for allowing parking of the vehicles within specified areas. Illegal parking of vehicles on the roads must be prohibited through legislations to help prevent accidents and allow free passage of the movement of the law abiding drivers. |

There should be strict law for illegal parking on the roads. The roads are meant for smooth traffic and at their margins footpath is provided so that pedestrians can move safely. In recent days especially in Bhopal, some roads have been made parking place eg 10 No. Bus Stop, New Market, Bittan Market etc. Also the footpaths have been demolished for this. Due to this roads have become narrower. Also, the pedestrians are not safe. They find it very difficult to walk specially old people and children. It is therefore recommended and demanded that the roads should be freed from parking and provided with footpaths so that the traffic could be safe. |

Bhopal, besides being the capital of MP is geographically the central city of the entire country. It has vastly expanded in length and breadth during the last two decades and may one day become a central metro city of the country in another couple of decades.
Besides Hamidia road, New Market and most of the MP Nagar, which are its established commercial areas and shopping centers, it has developed numerous regional shopping complexes in and around each and every residential locality. Time will come when like every other large city of the western world; every residential building of Bhopal also will have a car-parking place on its every storey. It becomes a bounden duty of every citizen of Bhopal to cooperate and join with traffic police and other authorities in following every traffic rule and regulation in parking vehicles and leaving enough space required for others to move about and carry on with their marketing and other jobs. Parking of vehicles properly and in orderly way is a vital component of every citizen's duty to be done without necessitating to be reminded for the same. If we citizens fail in these simple duties and responsibilities and thus make nuisance for other fellow citizens, harsh penal provisions may have to be resorted to set the things right..... |
