| Coimbatore One of the major industrial cities in South India, Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Coimbatore District. Coimbatore is well known for its textile industries, engineering industries, and automobile component manufacturers. Are the automobiles compatible enough with the road and traffic conditions in this city? |

According to “The Hindu” through the column `Face of Coimbatore' is highlighting meticulously with photographs the problems faced by the public - whether it is about the non-existence of a footpath over a long stretch on the arterial Trichy Road or about a dilapidated footpath on State Bank Road, close to the railway station and the District Collector's office (September 5). The condition of the pavement, as revealed by the photograph, makes it clear that the particular stretch has remained neglected for long.
Good quality materials and execution of work in strict conformity with the conditions laid down will alone guarantee durability. Besides the solutions in the article, either a sub-way or a pedestrian over bridge somewhere near the railway station is absolutely necessary to enable people to cross the road. If this is not feasible, there should at least be a couple of zebra crossings duly supported by pedestrian signals. K.D.Viswanaathan, Thadagam Road. |

This is one city where you will find it extremely hard to see a road name sign board, the recent MAHANADU not withstanding.
Strange are the ways of our civic authorities!!!!!!!!!!! |
