Suicides & Murders, not accidents
If you spare a thought to the way people drive on our roads, you would seriously suspect if they are on a suicide or murder mission!
Think about it - an accident is something that happens without one expecting it. But if one is driving on the wrong side of the road, or without proper lights at night, or at a rash speed, driving a vehicle whose condition makes it unmotorable, talking on the while driving, etc, etc - in all these situations one SHOULD expect to cause a crash and get killed or injured. So I tend to classify these 'accidents' as suicides (getting killed by one's own mistake) or murders (killing others due to negligence) - and the most important thing in both these cases, is that they are avoidable.
There is nothing more important than an individual's life - so driving on the wrong side of the road should never be an alternative to taking a 'U' turn at the nearest legitimate break in the road divider - there should be no question in the driver's mind about this, however far one has to go to take the U turn.
There are many such mistakes road users commit daily on our roads and many times they lead to deaths. The traffic police seem to have given up on the erring drivers. They just watch as drivers use cell s, triple-ride bikes, use the wrong side of the road etc. Neither they nor the drivers realise that they are risking the lives of so many people by being so uncivilised on the road.
The behaviour seems particularly applicable to Hyderabad, where the traffic sense is notoriously non-existent!
Wake-up and think - my friends ....... let us live and let others live!
