In the not so distant past, a drive to IT hub Madhapur from Secunderabad took just 45 minutes, but today the drive, covering the same distance, would mean no less than 90 minutes.


With poor traffic management near the flyovers being constructed at Greenlands and Punjagutta, there is total chaos during office hours. A 1.7 km-long flyover is being constructed at Punjagutta, while a 1.1-km long flyover is coming up at Greenlands at a cost of nearly Rs 40 crore.

According to traffic surveys, nearly 4.5 lakh passengers ply between Secunderabad and Madhapur per day.

Every hour, nearly 35,000 vehicles pass through the Punjagutta junction and traffic flow has gone up by 15 per cent this year as compared to last year. The other reason for slow movement of traffic is the rough road surface.

As per the contract agreement, Greenlands and Rajiv Gandhi statue-Punjagutta flyover work should be completed by February, 2007, but they might be completed only by March next.
