Hyderabad
Hyderabad - Istanbul of India. Jami Masjid, Toli Masjid, the Char Minar. Hustle and bustle of market life. Golconda Fortress, tombs of the Quatab Shahi Kings. Central Library, Osmania University, Public Gardens, Osman Sagar. Colourful bazaars, traditional Muslim gear and Mughlai delicacies. Hub of IT & Telecommunications, MNCs, superspeciality hospitals, medical tourism. Pleasant climate, magnificent cuisine, Hyderabadi Biryani, splendid shopping areas. But how is this fascinating amalgam of cultures coping with the traffic and road problems?

Driving Sense in Hyderabad

Traffic jams in Hyderabad but I never blame it on the authorities for poor infrastructure. In fact the roads here are pretty descent. The real cause of these traffic snarls is the excellent driving sense of these drivers here.
Be it any kind of driver-2,3,4,6 wheeler-, all think the road is their's and they are driving within there living room.

Sir is a VIP.. Has a separate lane for him. The foot path.

Look the auto there.. I thought he has parked it on the footpath and gone for a biriyani. Oh no.. He is also driving happily on this express lane

And he is the smartest of all... He reached the other end of the footpath and now going under the foot over bridge stairs to bypass the traffic.. He is the true winner.

Nice pics.... Absolutely our driving sense is much responsible for poor traffic condition in India than poor roads & infrastructure.

I agree with you completely. people have to change to help the authorities and only then we can blame the authorities. I have published a book for the road user. It is the first book of its kind in India. It will be avialable at Waldens from 20/03. It called streetwise.

In Delhi also motorcyclist used footpaths to reach their destiny ASAP. When motorcyclist found their free lane blocked due to improper stopping on redlights then they use footpaths.

What about pedestrians?

From where they will cross the road because vehicles stop on pedestrian crossing at cross sections?

Where they will walk if vehicles like 2 wheelers and auto rickshaws will use footpaths to move?

Street Signs Make no Sense

The Signals and Street Signs are mere dummies and make no sense. The poorly paid traffic constable, is right in the middle of the smokey dungeon with no place to escape. 95% traffic do not respect the signals or the police, and the 5% are force to break the rules. I guess more than half of the vehicle owners and drives are educated. And 50% of the IT professionals work for companies in the West, and always want to leave of far off countries, rather than create a world of what they like and what we need.

I guess we should stop looking west and start looking east, towards, Singapore, Malaysia, China and Japan. All these countries have similar problems of high population densities, and are fighting the traffic issues much better than us. All cars and two wheelers should be taxed heavly and should fund to use alternate modes of transportation.

Gp.

others should brake

I used to crib about chennai traffic and even have a blog chennairoadtraffic.blogspot.com. But after seeing the traffic sense and nonsense in Hyderabad and Secunderabad I am a little peaceful with chennai traffic. I have attached a photo I shot in front of Charminar. Notice the cyclist just passing through the moving autos! A much acclaimed stunt in French Connection is everyday scene in Hyderabad.

Nice pictures
But No one in the forum blames government. That is sad part. Indian public should at least blame our engineers for this fate of Country. There are 300000 Km of roads in India. Every bit of road is formed 25 times when you count from the date of Independence. each km costs around 10 lakh per Km. you can do your own arthematic to caculate the sheer waste. With that kind of money, any one can pave two tier traffic in cities also can make 7m wide road as single road. According to our IRC, 3,66 wide road is single and when some people object, they would be harrassed.
Road users can not be blamed
road makers are only to be blamed
The scooterist in the photo is correct in this city.
Let police come and catch him....Police also should drive on foot paths
and they are doing so....Hats up to Indians
