City roads to get waste plastic as coat
HYDERABAD: Soon, pet bottles, plastic carry bags and other waste plastic material found in garbage bins, will be used as part of road laying material.
The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) has decided to go for plastic roads on the lines of Bangalore and Surat which have been using plastic material in roads ready mix. Now, city roads, particularly BT roads, are getting damaged even due to one or two spells of rain. However, the plastic material will increase the life of the roads. Waste plastic material works as a strong binding agent for bitumen (tar). So, it will not only increase the quality of the road, but also help reduce non-biodegradable waste, sources in MCH said.
