Pune
Maharashtra's seat of culture, laid back, insane traffic, a few curious, but good watering holes, one of the most flamboyant race courses, has the fastest growing suburb of Asia, the Scotland of the East, pensioner's paradise. Osho, the ABC farms. The hot afternoons, the lovely nights and early mornings. The Misal and Usal. The Batatachi Bhaji!. How is the Roads and Traffic though?

Pune facing Consequences of PCB's Step

The step taken by Pune Contonement Board or popularly known as PCB is termed as illegal by the citizens and legal experts of Pune to reduce the width of footpath at Sachapir Street, so as to provide more space for the parking. The measure is being seen as violation of the guidelines of the Indian Road Congress on urban traffic.
People concerned by the move have termed the PCB's action as a callous disregard for pedestrians in one of the most congested locations in the city. The footpaths in Cantonment roads were already below their required limit of 1.5-2.5 metre width and the removal of parts of it has only complicated the matter for local shopkeepers and shoppers.
According to the rules width of sidewalk should be at least 1.5 metre in a street with anticipated capacity of 1,200 number of persons moving in one direction and 800 in both directions. For an anticipated capacity of 3,600 in one direction and 2,400 in both directions, which is the situation in most Cantonment roads, the width limit is 2.5 metre.

So I think such a step in a busy locality like Sachapir Street is a wrong step. Other alternatives should be sought for the Parking issue.

Wat do you people think ?
