Rising Traffic Snarls Worry Gurgaon Residents
The Ever Increasing traffic snarls have emerged as a cause for worry in the Millennium City despite claims by the city police that the situation is under control. Roads like Sheetla Mata, Old Delhi, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road and New Railway Road are a big threat to the city This was . expressed in the minutes of the meeting of the Gurgaon United Residents Movement (GURM)."We cannot walk ly on the pavements of MG Road as they are fully occupied by vendors, squatters and parked vehicles right under the nose of the authorities," alleged Kishore Asthana, a core group member of the GURM. The situation is particularly bad where traffic from Old Gurgaon merges with traffic on the National Highway near Hero Honda Chowk. From heavy vehicles to two wheelers, all contribute to the traffic snarls."Accidents take place here as there are no signals and no traffic marshals at all. We do not have any choice but to avoid the dangerous situation," said a daily commuter, Suman Kumar. The core group members of GURM sent a long list of suggestions to the traffic police last week on how to control traffic in the face of occupation of roads by vendors, haphazardly parked vehicles and rash driving. The situation is getting worse by the day It gets worse . in the morning and evening giving a tough time to commuters and pedestrians. The traffic police, however, have shown little inclination to adopt the suggestions."We are ready to consider any suggestions to improve the traffic situation. It is really deplorable but we are doing our best," said Satender Gupta, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) traffic. "We have deployed traffic marshals at all the vulnerable points and have given strict instructions to challan whoever obstructs the movement of smooth traffic. It has improved a bit in the past few years," added the DCP .He also added that other departments like HUDA, the Municipal Corporation and the Public Works Department are also requested to extend all possible help in smoothening the system. Earlier, on the request of the residents, the city police had introduced a one-way traffic system on these roads, which brought little relief."We were happy as there were less traffic snarls," said Dharam Sagar, a member of GURM. Source:Hindustan Times LOOKS LIKE THE COPS ALWAYS HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE ALL THE TIME. Btw, all these so called traffic marhsals are ill-trained uneducated workers who know no ABC of Traffic Management. And the commuers don't even bother for their signals.
