Gurgaon Traffic police get richer by Rs 16.59 crore in 5 yrs
Gurgaon traffic management is just pathetic. There is no law and order whatsoever. Gurgaon cops needs some training from Delhi or Mumbai Police on how to manage traffic.
It seems that all the local villagers have been recruited in the police force and they have limited exposure/experience on traffic management. They are no better than inexperienced security guards who can been sen manning the traffic. Police getting richer...how does that make them efficient? --------------------------------------------------------------------- Feb 03, 2012: The Gurgaon Traffic Police just got wealthier. The department has amassed a whopping Rs 16.59 crore during the past five years. The police also imposed 4.92 lakh challans during the same period, with the maximum being in 2011. However, despite the high number of challans during 2010 and 2011, the revenue collected was not high as 2007, 2008 and 2009. The police hope to achieve their target in 2012. Sources in the traffic department said the fine collected from erring motorists in 2011 reached Rs 5.42 crore, registering a remarkable increase from Rs 3.07 crore collected during 2010. A total of 2.56 lakh challans were issued for various traffic violations 2011, which increased from 1.22 lakh in 2010. The data also shows that 33,310 challans were issued in 2008, and Rs 3.27 crore collected as fine in the same year. In 2009, the police imposed 58,075 challans and collected revenue of Rs 2.93 crore, compared to 2.56 lakh challans and fine of Rs 5.42 crore in 2011. Likewise, in 2007, only 21,984 challans were issued but the revenue collected was Rs 1.87 crore. In 2011, the number of challans imposed was 10 times more (2.56 lakh), and the revenue increased by 3 times (Rs 5.42 crore). “Earlier, if somebody was caught violating traffic norms, the offender paid fine for multiple offences in one challan. Now, if a defaulter is involved in various offences, we book him in the category which has the maximum penalty. This is the reason the figures of revenue collection vary,” said a senior traffic police official not wishing to be named. “Our aim is to educate people on traffic rules. The data shows that we are committed to our job. We have set higher targets for 2012,” said Bharti Arora, deputy commissioner of police (traffic). |

I travel from NH8 everyday and there are so many illegal vehicles parked on the service lanes. Traffic cops are just sitting there like lame ducks and letting people park their vehicles, hence causing massive jams. On weekends there are no cops.
It is no news that Cops make a lot of money under the table and also withdraw decent salaries plus other benefits from the tax payers. So why don't they do their job properly? Why they have a "chalta hai" attitude? They are just waiting for fleece someone rather than really trying to make a change. |
