Thumbs up Drive against drunken driving

Gurgaon police have chalked out a plan to carry out special drives against drunken driving during the year-end celebration this week. According to top police officials, special attention of the drive would be on the mall stretch which has a number of pubs and restobars.

Gurgaon range inspector general (IG), Mahendra Lal, said that the drive would be carried out from December 28 to January 1. ‘‘This will include holding those who drink and drive. The drive would also ensure that the pubs and restobars close by the time they are allowed to do so,’’ Lal added.

According to senior superintendent of police (SSP), Hanif Qureshi, the entire city has been divided into five different ranges for this purpose. ‘‘Though the focus would be on the mall stretch, cops would also patrol in other parts of the city, including areas which have resorts,’’ cautioned Qureshi.

Resorts and farmhouses around Gurgaon have become party zones in recent years and cops say that the number of accidents rises significantly on December 31 night. ‘‘Visit any police station, you will find how many cases of accidents are reported,’’ said an SHO.

Meanwhile, highly placed sources said that Gurgaon police don’t have a single alcometer to test drunk drivers at the spot. SSP Qureshi said: ‘‘We have got some alcometer and this year these will be used extensively,’’ Qureshi said.

No need to plan more and more...Strict checking can solve the problem...Every driver should be arrest for driving under the influence, or driving while drunk…mandatory jail for those drivers.

Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally avoidable. unluckily, over twenty percent of all traffic fatalities in the India each year are caused by drunk drivers. Thus, drunk driving remains a serious national problem that disastrously affects thousands of victims annually.
