Kolkata
Amar Sonar Kolkata. City of Joy! Trams, mini buses, rosogolla, mishti doi, buses named 12C/32A/29D. Land of Mother Teresa & Charity. Macher Jhol and ubiquitous smell of Hilsa. Horrific sweat, chappals, the 20 paisa (remember that?) Most Nobel laureattes of India. Salt Lake stadium, chaotic, poor, fleeting Communism afloat with hope. Livid theatre culture. But what about Roads and Traffic condition here - A Big Question Mark?

Some of the common traits in Kolkata

Majority of our Drivers -Urban/Educated, Urban/Semi-literate, Professional Drivers e.g. cabbies, bus Drivers, Transport Vehicle, are rude or blissfully unaware of the rules, or just love flouting them, Double Parking of Vehicles are common for everybody. I\'m from Kolkata and in Kolkata I find some of the common traits in most of the Drivers
  • Trundle slowly keeping the right side of the road blocked, so that nobody can overtake them
  • Parking in No parking Zones, with untrained Police Constables happily looking on
  • Park the vehicle just at road crossing (True for Taxi Drivers) who love to have the advantage of the look-out point for would be clients
  • Despicable Auto-rickshaw drivers (80% unlicensed driver) scurrying their unregistered Autos dangerously, confident about the blessing of local Political Party \'Dada\' & at times even gets support of the Transport Minister
  • Taxi drivers slowing down much before the Traffic Light / crossing when they have fares. Logic is.... more time spent in the Red Signal in a occupied Taxi means more fare
  • Bus Driver break every rule in the Book, seems they have a competition going on for Driver with the Most Kills/ Maiming
