The Western India Auto Association (WIAA) has introduced a car simulator, which replicates real life situations of the road and is used to train fresh drivers. The simulator has been imported from France and has been training a number of fresh drivers seeking permanent driving licence.
“The simulator has actual car controls and is a thorough teaching tool,” says Nitin Dossa, executive chairman WIAA. According to Dossa, learning in a simulator will give 70 per cent confidence to the driver before he hits the road for training in an actual car. The simulator has three screens, which depict the front and the side views of the car. One can also choose from variety of climatic conditions, traffic situations and different roads (highways or city roads) to drive on, which will be displayed on the screens.
Presently, only members of WIAA can undergo the simulator training. “Anyone can become a member of WIAA for a fee of few hundred rupees and can begin with the simulator training,”. While a month-long training on a simulator along with an on-road training costs Rs 4,500 for a Tata Indica and Rs 4,100 for a Maruti 800, training on a simulator costs Rs 2,000 for a 10-day session.
