Mumbai
City of dreams. Economic capital. Movie Magic. Marine Drive, Gateway of India, Hotel Taj, Dombivili, Mulund, Bandra. Mount Mary for those who have faith in the almighty. The UNDERWORLD. The Mumbai nightlife. The city that lives by its train timings. Dharavi, Vashi, Dadar, Colaba, Bal Thackrey, bomb blasts, Prithvi Theatre, Bhel puri, neon lights, Ganesh Chathurti. Sachin’s Ferrari. What do you think of the traffic though?

Mumbaikars when they get onto the Road

To : All Concerned

I am a Mumbaikar working abroad for over 6 years now. I am presently in Mumbai and am shocked to see that this city is getting from bad to worse in terms of city planning.

When you get onto the road, its scary for the fact that we dont drive the same way outside India, owing to the strict rules prevailing abroad. So are we to blame Democracy for having given us the right to do what we want.

The way most Mumbaikar spits on the road is a disheartening sight. The way two wheelers enter round abouts, the way they accelerate, the way autorickshaws scare private vehicles by speeding their vehicles. The way big cars try to show-off their magnanimity by overspeeding the small vehicles. And above all the masses...the way people walk in between these vehicles.

All this makes we NRIs to think twice about our plans to return back to Mumbai and live a decent living.

Why cant we stop hurrying, take a breather and allow others to walk / drive by. Why cant we look for a washroom when we want to spit. Why cant these rickshaw drivers be controlled by strict governing bodies. Also people with exisiting driving license must go through another strict test to develop a good attitude for driving on the roads.

Abroad the laws are strict, the governing body does not give this kind of liberty to act arbitarily. Its high time these things gets highlighted and the governing body prevailing in India (in Mumbai), takes corrective action on these things before setting high targets for future. Its very important to secure and safeguard what we have in hand before we prepare ourselves to take on the world.

Trust what i have highlighted here will make sense to most of we Mumbaikars.

Regards,

Ajit
