Disappear, speed demons
Disappear, Speed Demons Quote:
Shinde has sent a letter to the Censor Board of India, asking for scenes of bike racing and rash driving to be deleted from movies. Shinde said: “Films like Dhoom 2 influence young people and encourage activities like bike racing and rash driving.” He added: “Most young men try to imitate the stunts shown in these films. But this only leads to accidents because they are not capable of handling such powerful vehicles. That is why I have written a letter to the Censor Board asking for such scenes to be deleted from movies.” According to Shinde, 70 per cent of two-wheeler accidents occur at high speeds. ![]() However, when contacted, Vinayak Azad, Regional Officer, Central Board of Film Certification, Mumbai, said: “We have not received any such letter. I can comment only when I see the document.” A senior traffic department official said he approved of Shinde's move. “Two-wheeler riders not only break rules by cutting lanes and overtaking, but also scare other motorists who tend to lose control of their vehicle when such bikers veer close to them.” Producer-director Suneel Darshan, who recently helmed Dosti, was expectedly not happy about Shinde’s move. “India is the only country where we cannot shoot with animals. Here, we will have to think twice before shooting any action scenes. If authorities keep coming up with such rules, what will we do in the future?” he said. Maharashtra also tops accident statistics in India — the number of accidents in the state has gone up from 65,686 in 2003 to 67,720 in 2005. Mumbai traffic police statistics also state that while the number of offences by two-wheeler riders has doubled since 2003, the number of theeler accidents since then has more than trebled. Right Mr. Shinde….racer bikes encourage youths for rash driving, this is dangerous for their and others lives. Unfortunately few youths also lost their lives due to these racer bikes after taking the inspiration of fast driving from the movie Dhoom but to snip bike-racing and rash-driving scenes from movies (if it happens) will not be a fare decision with film makers because racer bikes are the most important part of Dhoom type movies.
I want to say that problem is in our mind not racer bikes. |

‘Give bikers avenues to rev up’
‘Give Bikers Avenues to Rev Up’ Quote:
The traffic commissioner justifies it on the ground that youngsters get inspired by such scenes to race on city roads, which results in accidents. The government tried banning smoking scenes; has that curbed nicotine addiction? Are they going to ban races from films that are already released? Besides, every household has a TV and a satellite connection. Sports channels regularly beam motor sports. Will the transport commissioner impose a blanket ban on these channels too? Is it even possible? Youth will always look for excitement. No matter what curbs you put, they will seek the thrill of speed. Instead of impractical ideas, the authorities should think of providing a space where the young can go and sat isfy this hunger. Racing sport is a neglected sport in India. If the young get more opportunities to display their skill on a motorcy cle, they would not try mindless stunts on the road. A drag race is scheduled in Mumbai in February, but such events are too few. There should be more avenues for young bikers to rev their bikes in a controlled environment. It will also give them a forum to meet seasoned riders and learn from them. It is better that the young take to bikes than drugs or alcohol for excitement. Those who love motorcycles spend a lot of time maintaining their machines and are constantly upgrading their knowledge about them. They love their bikes and are responsible about riding. Instead of banning bike racing from films, the authorities would be better off putting safety training measures in place. I think it is simply a publicity stunt and nothing else.
