An open manhole near Badhwar Park on dug-up Jagannath Bhosle Road has been lying unattended, causing traffic jams, waiting for somebody to fall in!


You would have thought, burdened as it already is by the citizens’ curses for the inconvenient concretisation works it has undertaken in South Mumbai, the BMC would have covered an open manhole in Cuffe Parade within minutes of its lid collapsing. But no, this fairly largish manhole (wide enough to sink a motorcycle, actually) has been left open for several days. And because it is on a road that has already been dug into half its size for concretisation work, the manhole is causing the mother of all traffic jams during peaks hours. Yet, the BMC blithely will not do anything about it. Perhaps, High Court intervention again might bring the civic body to this scene on its knees.
